See who's looking for a new home!
What's New? Lots! We have had a fair amount of activity since our 2007 rescue reunion. Several Scotties have entered our rescue program, and we are always amazed at the personalities and tenacity of these little dogs. We have also had a great deal of commercial breeding dogs come through our program, and are reminded how these dogs climb into our hearts. Congratulations to Kelsey, Katie, Smokey, Maggie, Mazey, Holly, Geoffrey, Chelsea, Kallie, Annie, Scotty, Peaches, Missy, Angel, Tillie, Gypsy, Bridget Fiona, Zoey, Maddie, Gus, Huey P. Lewis, Goldie, Tessa, Louie, Mulligan, Blair, Bugsy, Winston, Max, Wally and Riley, our Class of 2008!
Our next picnic will be Saturday, September 13, 2008.
Our 2008 Memory of Monroe Calendars are available! Order yours today. Bring home the rescues to your home and/or office.
We are honored to have a talented artist, Cherry O'Neill, as one of our adoptive moms. Cherry adopted her Scottie Annie, and later, her Westie, Zoë from us. Be sure to check out Cherry's web page, Tail End Productions to see some fantastic Scottie and Westie artwork.
Cherry painted this portrait of Monroe. Thank you, Cherry, for bringing Monroe back to life. Would you like to receive notices of upcoming events and gatherings? We are members of the Scottish Terrier Club of America, and operate under the STCA Rescue Guidelines. Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue is based in the Minneapolis area, and covers Minnesota and its neighboring states. How it all began Monroe was a special Scottie boy who captured our hearts in an instant. He was homeless. He had heartworm. He had obviously been loved at some point, but he fell through the cracks. Monroe found us at a pet adoption and from that day on, the lesson on Scotties began, and our hearts were happy beyond belief. Monroe was with us for only a year, but gave us many gifts. We knew there must be other "Monroes" out there, and vowed we would find as many Monroes as we could, and get them into wonderful homes. Since 1997, we have seen the organization grow. We have seen many happy families, and dogs who are spoiled rotten. They are the kings and queens they deserve to be. What we do Scotties come into Rescue from many sources. They may currently be in a family where they can no longer be cared for due to many reasons, or they may be turned into a shelter. Often times, our rescues come from commercial breeding facilities, where they have been producing puppies. All dogs are spayed or neutered before going to their new home. They are also up-to-date on all vaccinations and are heartworm checked prior to their adoption. A majority of the dogs are not housetrained when they come into rescue. They are started on training while in our care, but the new owner must be willing to work at this too.
While the dog is in foster care, its needs, personality, likes and dislikes are assessed. Great care goes into determining the best possible match for every rescue dog. Adoptive families must fill out an application to be considered for a rescue dog. We have far more applications at any time than we have dogs in rescue. To fill out an application, please follow the Application link. An adoption fee of $150-$300 is required for every dog. The fee will depend on the age and condition of the dog. Memory of Monroe will take back the adopted dog at any time for whatever reason. Dogs are placed in homes within driving distance in the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska. We do not ship dogs out of state and do not place dogs in states outside of those listed unless under special circumstances. If you are considering surrendering a Scottie, or know of someone who is, please get in touch with Jan Seeger or Pat Gordy. Information is located on our Contacts page. In dealing with a surrendering party, we must establish communication directly with the person who currently owns the dog. We have successfully adopted out many special-needs and elderly dogs, and have a great list of potential homes awaiting a Scottie in need. If you need to re-home a Scottie, please contact us for further information. How we celebrate Each year, the current "Class Of" celebrates its inductions at the Scottie Lover's/Rescue Reunion. We introduce our current "Class of" which consists of dogs that have come into rescue since the prior year's picnic. Our picnic is a time to meet new people, renew friendships, but the stars of the day are the Scotties. They seem to know that the day is all about them, and they are proud of it. The Scottie reunion is also our major fundraiser for the year. Having this event allows us to operate into the next year by providing us with funds to help the Scotties that come our way. We have a very large silent auction which fills the entire Education Building at the Carver County Fairgrounds. It's huge! Many people donate their Scottie-related goods throughout the year, and many bring them to the auction the day of the picnic. We also have a raffle, and a parade through the fairgrounds led by a bagpiper. We have an annual Halloween party and costume contest in the fall. The costumes are something else! We certainly have a creative bunch of families who love to get their dogs in the spirit of Halloween!
