read the following before filling out the application to adopt a Scottie.
The rescue dogs are here because they need a good home; one that fits their needs first and foremost. The more open an application to a mix, an older dog, or perhaps one with special needs, the greater the chance of adoption. The majority of the Scotties we get in need help in the way of medical needs, basic living needs such as learning house rules and getting along with a family in a home. Quite a few of them come from commercial breeding facilities, and they have never been inside a house before their foster home. They need lots of socialization and love, and need to learn how to use steps and get the hang of housetraining. Many of the Scotties we get from owners are due to the dog not being good with children. There rarely is a young dog with an easy going attitude who will become available for adoption. Every one of the dogs we get in is worthy of a good home. It's a matter of meeting expectations and knowing who will fit in where. Please understand that by submitting an application, we cannot guarantee you will adopt a dog. We usually do not know what is coming in and when. While we would love to be able to adopt out to every applicant on our waiting list, but we cannot guarantee there will be a Scottie that fits. Choose the Coordinator for Minnesota (Jan Seeger) or Nebraska (Pat Gordy) and submit the form. If a Scottie becomes available that would be a good fit, you will be contacted. Applicants must agree to a home visit and vet reference check before the dog will be adopted. An adoption fee ranging from $150 to $300 is charged for each adoption. The price will depend on the age and condition of the dog being adopted. The dogs are vet checked, vaccinated, tested for heartworm, and are spayed or neutered and loved dearly before placement. If adopting a dog from us, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract stating you will keep the dog as an indoor dog, and keep its vaccinations and heartworm preventative up to date. Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue agrees to take the dog back - for whatever reason - during its lifetime if the adopter can no longer keep the dog. The dogs in the rescue program become a part of our family and are always in our hearts. We take great care in finding the right home for every one that comes through our doors. We do not place outside the upper Midwest states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska. All dogs are driven to their new homes by rescue volunteers, and the new family also helps with transportation by meeting us half way or a portion of the drive. Click here to go to the Application
