Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue will take a portion of our time at the picnic to remember and celebrate the life of Gary Penke.  Gary passed away suddenly in March, 2005.  Gary created the wonderful Grapevine Scotties that have been a fixture at our events and many others throughout the country.  His Scottie girls, Aunt Stella and Heidi have been living a life of luxury in their new home with Bob and Sharon Dodds.  Join us for some of Gary’s favorite cake as we celebrate this wonderful man’s life and contribution to rescue.

The STARS of the day are our beloved rescues.  This is the day for them to be recognized and publicly appreciated for being great little dogs and giving their family such unconditional love.  Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue has either placed or helped find homes for some wonderful Scotties and Westies this year!    Thanks to all of you who have helped and a big Arrroooo to all the adoptive families!!   Here’s the Class of 2005!

Allie, Duncan S, Reggie, Pal, Truman, Max, Cinder, Gracie Girl, Carrie, Maddie B., MacDougal, Barney, Heidi, Aunt Stella, Wally, Sophie, Newton, Sunny, Riley, Darby, Duncan W., Daisy, Scooter, Roscoe and Max!  Congratulations to a wonderful group of dogs and the people who love them!

Our silent auction has become somewhat of a legend! We already have some awesome things for this year’s event.  If you have Scottie, Westie or other dog/dog lover items to donate to the auction, please bring them to the picnic or contact Jan in advance for a silent auction form.

Why are we doing this?  To help homeless Scotties!  Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue was founded in 1997 to help re-home Scotties.  All Scotties are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and loved dearly before going to their new homes.  Sometimes they are in foster care for a week, sometimes for a few months.  During that time, new homes are screened, and when a good match is made, the Scottie goes to their new home.  Rescue is very rewarding for both the dog and the new family.  Please help our efforts by supporting our organization and celebrating the lives of our beloved terriers.  Our work is enabled by your donations.  This past year was a record-breaking year in the number of dogs we have run through the program.

How can you help Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue?

  • Come and celebrate the lives of our terriers at the annual picnic
  • Bring an item(s) for the silent auction
  • Bid on items at the silent auction
  • Purchase raffle tickets for the Scottie Fire Ring and/or Chainsaw Carving
  • Purchase a Memory of Monroe Calendar for 2006
  • Volunteer at the picnic (free admission and t-shirt!) We desperately need volunteers!
  • Bring a dessert for our dessert table (please let us know in advance)

We need your help!  Volunteers are needed for bringing a dessert, set up, silent auction, food, registration, raffle tickets, t-shirt sales and clean up.  Please contact Jan Seeger (jseeger@prodigy.net) 952-937-6984 or Sue Storms, Volunteer Chair, (hobartharris@netzero.net) 952-949-9655 if you can help out.
