ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

What is Memory of Monroe?

Memory of Monroe Scottie Rescue began in 1997 and was dedicated to the memory of our own Scottie boy, Monroe.  Monroe was a rescue who was out on the streets and needed a lot of love and medical care.  Despite his illness and age, he charmed us with his antics, personality, and willingness to live.  We told him we would find all the other “Monroe” Scotties and find them homes, too.

Since the early years of doing rescue, we quickly found our four to five dogs a year expectations quickly surpassed.  We got busy, and we found homes.  We stretched out to Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas.  Not too long ago, we added Nebraska.

Each year, the number of purebred Scotties that enters our rescue program inches up a bit.  This year, one of our hardest yet, found us with many puppy mill surrenders.  We spent thousands of dollars getting these dog’s medical needs taken care of.  We also had to address the socialization and manners with these dogs that had never lived in a home.  We had our work cut out for us.

We also saw more owner surrenders due to the economy.  We also saw many dogs that could not cohabitate with children.  Despite all of that, the dogs found great homes!

Finding the right owner for the rescues is the number one goal.  The dogs enter foster care and have their needs assessed, and then we work to find a home that will allow that dog to thrive and grow.

Please support our efforts by attending the picnic or offering a donation to allow us to continue this work.

Memory of Monroe is run by volunteers and is a 501 (c) 3 organization under the IRS’ charitable organizations code and donations are tax deductible.

Our silent auction is HUGE!  If you love Scottie paraphernalia or antiques, this is the place for you.  We get many donations of great items throughout the year, which are put on display during the picnic.  Place your bid and let the games begin!  The auction is our largest source of income for the year.  Bid early and bid often – the dogs need your help!

Auction items can be brought to the picnic or you can contact Jan prior to the picnic.  We’ll bring the items to the picnic and will have them ready to go.

Have the best mailbox on the block!  This gorgeous hand-crafted mailbox features Scotties facing one another at the top.  This beautiful mailbox is hand-made by Tom Steyer, and donated by Tom Steyer and his wife, Pat Gordy, our rescue coordinators in Nebraska.

These beautiful pillows are extraordinary!  Nothing says “Scottie” more than these wonderful 22” square pillows.  They are meticulously crafted with an overlapping felt stitched Scotties/Westie design on a sturdy red/green plaid background.  Tied fringe on the edges gives it an upscale look.  Beautiful.  Must be seen to appreciate.  These items were generously donated by our dear friend and Scottie lover, Stan Zerkowski.

A beautiful hand-crafted Scottie quilt done in square blocks of various “Scottie” fabric.  The center square is a stitched black Scottie.  The quilt is full-size and will fit a full or queen-sized bed perfectly.  This beautiful quilt was donated by our wonderful friends (and Mikey’s parents), John and Stephanie Wisecarver.

These cute magnets tell everyone who you love and what you support!  Magnets are $5 each and can be picked up at the picnic or mailed to you.
