Scottie Lover's Rescue Reunion - September 17, 2005

What a wonderful day to see so many of our rescue families and friends at our annual gathering!  Once again, Scotties, Westies and other beloved family members filled the grounds of the Carver County Fairgrounds in Waconia, MN for our 7th annual rescue reunion.

We had a bit of a cool day (for a change!) and it was cloudy.  Right before the program started, the wind kicked up and knocked down our banner and some table cloths.  That's okay, we have the Scottie stubborn spirit and we went about our business.

Our day started off in the Education building with wonderful items for the silent auction.  Many people purchased raffle tickets for a Scottie Fire Ring and Chainsaw Carving of a Scottie.  Alexis and Jim Todd won the Fire Ring, and Jane and Bill Patzke won the Carving!  Congratulations!

Our program started out with a remembrance to our dear friend, Gary Penke, who passed away last March.  Gary's favorite day of the year was our picnic, and he graced us with some lovely Grapevine Scotties and other artwork throughout the years.  Sharon Dodds donated the Gary Penke Meal Deal, a $50 gift certificate for Petco and another $50 gift certificate for Cub Foods.  This wonderful prize was won by Bob Popelka and Paula Stuettgen.  (Mom and dad to June Bug and Mac!)

The Rev. Tim Forsman blessed the animals and offered prayers for the animals and their owners.  We also remembered our dear four-legged rescues who have passed away since last year's picnic and some very wonderful adoptive dads, too.  (God bless you, Tim, Karl and Gary).

We welcomed the Class of 2005!  Several of our adoptive families joined us to tell their stories and show off their wonderful additions to their new homes.  Wow!  This was such an awesome day because everyone looked soooo darned good looking!  Everyone had great coats and beautiful skin.  But best of all, they're all LOVED a great deal by their families and it certainly shows.

Our Spirit of Tessa Award went to Wally Dusick.  Wally is a young Scottie boy who joined his new family last winter, along with his sidekick Sophie.  Wally demonstrated the "Spirit of Tessa" by his die-hard attitude and hard work at integrating into his new home with another Scottie boy.  He worked very hard to overcome some very bad habits ... and he defies the stereotypical Scottie's attitude towards training ... he did it!

Our June Bug Spirit Award went to Gracie Girl Kubicek.  Gracie Girl entered rescue last winter after being in a breeding kennel for her entire life.  She did not know what toys, a house, or a doggie bed were.  She came into rescue a very scared girl, and her foster mom was initially unsure as to whether she could be adopted.  But now, you would never know Gracie had such a past.  She is totally doted upon and loved by her mom.

Our silent auction brought in funds that will keep Memory of Monroe operating for another year.  Monies collected will go towards the vetting, rehabilitating and rehoming the wonderful dogs that enter our program in 2006.  As of the beginning of October, 2005, we already have a good start to the Class of 2006.

Thank you to all of you who attended, donated, shared a story with us or volunteered.  We had many volunteers in red shirts that day helping us prepare and serve the food, run the auction, and check in people as they came.  WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOU!  We also had a couple of cuties selling the calendars and Boyd's Glass items.  Thank you to all of you for your tireless efforts in helping us.
